Saiyad Muzaffar Hussain, Chairman Umrao Hospitals, had to undergo an Emergency Spine surgery known as Micro Discectomy of L4-L5 Inter-vertebral disc, under Dr Harleen Singh Luther, Senior Consultant Neurosurgery & Spine Surgery teamed with Dr Swatantra Mishra (HOD Critical care & Anesthesia), Umrao Hospitals on 13th April 2013. MRI of lower spine revealed that the Inter Vertebral Disc between Lumbar Vertebra no 4 & 5 (known as L4/L5) had expanded & extruded itself which was putting pressure on a nerve root on the right side which was the cause of severe pain.
In the surgery that lasted for 2.5 hours, the disc pieces were removed, the nerve root was freed through a small 3 cm incision. Umrao Hospital’s state of art Neuro Operation Theater with a powerful C Arm, and advanced Carl Zeiss Neuro Microscope (imported from Germany) made it all possible with the maximum safety.
Mr. Hussain recovered from general anesthesia to find that the agonizing pain which he had been experiencing for the last 48 hours had completely disappeared and is back to his regular activities.
