15 year young boy Azim had a cardiac arrest and kidney failure, later got into coma due to high diabetes. Azim had fever for 5 days followed by fast breathing was taken to the clinic where his diabetes level rose to >500 for which he was started on insulin drip. The child went into sudden cardiac arrest for which he was revived and shifted to Umrao Hospital, Mira Road.

Azim was in severe acidosis with very low BP and required intensive care. He had kidney failure which required dialysis every day, and very high blood sugars and was in coma. Being a tertiary care setup doctors were able to save his life by providing necessary treatment. An MRI Brain study showed Severe Hypoxic brain damage due to which he was in Encephalopathy. On request from parents to take a second opinion he was shifted to South Mumbai’s hospital but was referred back to Umrao Hospitals confirming that the line of treatment was perfect and the patient just needs some more care. After 3 weeks the patient came out of coma. Today Azim is going home, he can eat normal food, talk with his family, and looks at us with grateful eyes for gifting back his life.

World-wide Diabetes Mellitus is the 7th largest cause of death. Around 1% of children in India suffer with Juvenile Diabetes. Umrao Hospitals tertiary care facility providing round the clock service is the only tertiary care facility in North Mumbai….. all the way from Kandivali to Surat.
